Fundraising Opportunities at Christ the King

Recycle paper and help CtK at the same time!

We now have two paper recycling bins outside the church for paper and magazines (in the parking lot near the lake-side fence).
Christ the King gets money for every ton of paper that is collected, so bring all you have!
Please No Plastic!

FUN AND EXCITING FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY
Olympia Entertainment (Joe Louis Arena) has established a program whereby various non-profit organizations partner with Olympia Entertainment to work in the concession stands during the Red Wing games in exchange for a percentage of the profits.  Olympia Entertainment provides the product, place and guests – the volunteers just have to concentrate on the selling!

Christ the King will be availing itself to program.  We will be allowed to work 9-10 games over the course of the season.  Christ the King will have to provide at least 12 people per game. The volunteers need to be 18 years or older.  All volunteers are to work approximately 6 hours which includes 2 l/2 hours before game time, and l/2 hour after the game. For example, call time for a 7:30 P.M. game would be 5 P.M.
Our organization will earn 9% of the net profits for the first 9 games and if we work more than 9 we would earn 10% of the net profits for 10 games and above.
Volunteers can work one game or as many as they want.  This is a wonderful opportunity to not onlyraise funds for CtK but for fellowship.  Although we can not actually watch the game on the ice, we will be in Joe Louis arena having fun together.
We will be attending a training session at Joe Louis on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at 5 p.m.  Thereafter, we will be able to train our volunteers.

Anyone wishing to volunteer may contact Diane Wyrock at either 248-358-4560 or 313-885-7737. Further information will be forthcoming.

Don't Forget: The Kroger Purchasing Cards
These give you dollar for dollar value on your purchases while they contribute up to 5% back to our building program!

If you are already participating, thank you for being a Kroger Fund Raiser Customer. If Not, read on and see how much your regular spending can help!
When we use our gift cards for the first time, or when they are reloaded, we receive a check from Kroger for 5% of all the reloads. For the cycle of 9/4/05 to 10/1/05 Christ the King Kroger cards were either used for the first time or reloaded for a total of $4110. (The last statement was from 8/7/05 to 9/3/05 and our reloads were $3760.) We will not receive a check this month but the balance will accumulate for the next cycle’s calculations. If we try to plan ahead (and not get caught shopping without a gift card), we possibly could reach a goal of $5000 a month. This means we would get a check for $250 every month for doing nothing more than what we must already do: buy groceries! Think of it this way: if 200 CtK members each spent ONLY $50 a month on groceries (ha!) using a gift card programmed for our church, that total would be $10,000, 5% of which is $500. We would be getting $500 a month for doing little more than what we must do anyway: buy groceries! Call me at 313-886-1957 for your cards, I will deliver them to you or see Nina in the church office.

Thanks again for your support! - Lisa Nuechterlein.

Introducing the Great Lakes Rebate Program

The Building Project Management Team of Christ the King Church and Preschool has been looking at fundraising opportunities to supplement our operating budget. The church already participates in a rebate card program through Kroger supermarkets in which Kroger gives back to CtK 5% of every purchase made by a member. These cards are available to preschool parents, too.

From its research, the Project Management Team learned about Great Lakes Scrip, a company based in Grand Rapids. Great Lakes Scrip works with a variety of retailers: gas stations, drug stores, restaurants, clothing stores, cruise lines, and everything in between. These retailers offer gift cards and/or paper certificates, know as scrip, which they accept from customers in lieu of cash. Great Lakes purchases their scrip at a deeply discounted rate, and then markets it to churches, schools and other non-profit organizations at a lesser discount. When an organization sells the scrip to its members, it does so at face value. The organization makes its profit from the difference between the price it pays versus the price it charges for scrip.

This is an excellent way for CtK to generate revenue for our operating budget while we’re in our preschool building expansion program. As with the Kroger card, the goal is to get as close to 100% participation from CtK preschool families in Great Lakes Rebates as possible. Working with Great Lakes Scrip offers CtK enormous revenue potential, because they deal with stores where many of us shop frequently. Some examples are:

CVS Pharmacy, Kmart, Barnes & Noble, Sunoco, Kids R Us, Circuit City, Blockbuster Video, JC Penney, Burger King, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Home Depot, Pizza Hut and many, many more!

Tapping this potential revenue will mean asking all of us to make a lifestyle change. Each household would need to do some advance planning before they shop. This would allow lead time in which families would place and receive scrip orders. CtK’s goal is to place scrip orders on a weekly basis. We’ll arrange convenient times to pick up orders several days a week. We also have a downloadable order form on CtK’s website. Click here for Downloadable PDF format order form.

Order forms will be made available to you. The plan is for Christ the King to place its first order on Wednesday, April 7 and to continue on a weekly basis for the foreseeable future. There will be an envelope labeled "Great Lakes Scrip" posted on the bulletin board outside the office to collect completed order forms. You may also leave your order form in the trustees box in the church office. We’ll experiment with order pick up days and times to find what’s most convenient for members. The current schedule is Monday-Thursday between 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday-Thursday between 5-7 p.m., and on Sundays after each service as needed.
